About Us
Fife AC was formed in
the early 70's from the amalgamation of several clubs in North East Fife
who in turn joined forces with Fife Southern Harriers to form the
current Fife AC. Geographically, it is a widespread club taking in
Central and North East Fife, with training groups in Kirkcaldy,
Glenrothes, Cupar, and St Andrews. The aim of the club is to
promote all aspects of athletics - track and field, road, cross country,
and hill running throughout the age range to both sexes and for all
standards.
Participation
for all
From the
beginning promotion of the sport for children has been important, and
groups for children are run in Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, and St Andrews
from primary school upwards. This has led to success with the under 17
boys and junior men's teams winning gold and silver respectively in the
Scottish Cross Country Championships. In the last few years
the boys under 11 and under 17 teams have also won the East of Scotland
Cross Country League, with the under 15 team runners up.
In track and field boys and girls compete in the young athletics league.
In hill running the WHOLE Scottish junior men's team at the 2000 World
Hill Running Championships consisted of Fife AC members.
What is more important than this success is the participation by large
numbers of children.
Club Events
As well as training, the club organises many events, over 20 at the last
count, ranging from a 50K road race to the largest hill relay race in
Scotland and also including a series of local races. Teams regularly
take part in the major Scottish events and in recent times the men's
team have performed well in the British AAA's 12 stage road relay
championships finishing twice in the top 20. All this work by
organisers and coaches has paid off with numerous events won by Fife AC
athletes and teams.
